Are we here again? The tri-weekly rant where I complain about the frequency of WWE Events? Already? Weren’t we just here…oh right…
The WWE comes out and offers a favourite of old school fans, but somehow offers it in the most luke warm way possible. As was mentioned once here before, the build to this card has been nothing short of atrocious, with 50% of the matches being announced just this past week on RAW. All of this a year after reshuffling the card at the last minute.
But all of that aside, we have some interesting matches, and some title matches. I can’t remember a card that included three titles matches that all feel like foregone conclusions, and all will probably be pretty dull, boring matches. The intrigue lies on the Wyatts vs. The Indie Mega Powers, and the Survivor Series elimination match that has been featuring eight men who have been absolutely bringing it of late…and Jack Swagger and Rey Mysterio. Hopefully those two matches make up for the doldrums that surround it.
But it shouldn’t be all bad, in the past we’ve had Survivor Series that include foreshadowing for the big Wrestlemania matches. Remember the last time there was a special decade Wrestlemania coming? We saw Kane interfere in an Undertaker match and a backstage segment between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar. Sure both those matches at Wrestlemania XX sucked, but at least there was some thought put into it. Hopefully we’ll see something of that sort soon.
As always matches are in order of how they SHOULD Happen…
Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz
You-Tube Kickoff Match
What SHOULD Happen: Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that The Miz turned heel. But why now? Why here? What did Kofi Kingston do to him? What has Kofi Kingston done to anyone in the last several years? Hopefully this could be the start of a real feud between these two that The Miz can explain away somehow or another. Maybe the reason could be something like: “I was tired of being sent out there for matches that don’t mean anything, I belong at the top of the marquee”, and he can make some cracks that Kofi hasn’t had any matches that matter since 2009 and he didn’t want to turn out like him so he did something about it. Hey I could actually buy that as a feud…what the hell did I do there?
Back to the match: The Miz has to win here doesn’t he? It pretty much has to be by nefarious means to solidify the fact that he’s a bad guy now. Hopefully these two can have a couple match feud going forward a bit to help give both guys some direction for the next few months.
What WILL Happen: The Miz wins on the account of villainy, moves onto other things.
Rhodes Brothers, The Usos, and Rey Mysterio vs. The Shield and The Real Americans
Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match
What SHOULD Happen: These matches are always fun, aren’t they? The purpose of this match is pretty simply to me, build up a four way ladder match for the tag titles next month, plant some seeds of discontent among The Shield and The Rhodes Brothers, and build up Rey vs. Ambrose for the US Title. So let’s have it go down something like this…
One of the Usos eats a spear from Reigns to put the face team behind. Not long after Cody pins Seth Rollins with a Cross-Rhodes. Soon after, while the Rhodeseseseses are rolling they have some miscommunication which leads to Jack Swagger pinning Goldust, making it 4-3 for the bad guys. After a bit of a back and forth Swagger gets double teamed by Rey and the remaining Uso who work together to eliminate him. Ambrose yells at his team that they need to follow his lead as they clearly aren’t doing well, Reigns rolls his eyes and is clearly not happy. Ambrose still puts his money where his mouth is and eliminates that Uso boy that’s somehow still in this match, putting his team back in the lead. While being over confident, Rey Mysterio is able to roll him up for three while Roman Reigns does nothing to break the count. Ambrose is pissed and while the ref is distracted rushes in swinging his belt and hits Rey…but was he aiming for Reigns? Reigns still pins Rey Mysterio to make it 2-1. Cody fights hard kicking out after several near falls, but a distraction from Zeb Coulter proves to be too much and he eats a Neutralizer and is eliminated, leaving Cesaro and Reigns as the survivors for their team.
There we go, we get all four tag teams ready to fight, rifts between The Shield and the Rhodes Brothers, and we get Rey Mysterio as the US title contender.
What WILL Happen: I could see the faces winning here with Cody and Rey as the survivors.
Big E. Langston vs. Curtis Axel
Intercontinental Title Match
What SHOULD Happen: Honestly, I have no idea why they didn’t wait to do the title change here. Why not have Langston win some sort of a contenders match on RAW to earn this opportunity where he goes out and wins the belt? It would make everyone look better, and probably a lot better too. But yet here we are. Langston is clearly getting the win here, and hopefully Axel can get taken off TV and repackaged a bit. I hope Big E’s next feud is with a returning Wade Barrett or Mark Henry, both of which would make him look awesome I would think.
What WILL Happen: Langston is winning, especially with no Heyman around. Not sure if anyone’s given a ton of thought to Langston’s next feud here…
Impromptu Match/Segment #1
What SHOULD Happen: Can we have another elimination match? They gave us an impromptu one last year and it was a ton of fun! Let’s have: Ziggler, R-Truth & Xavier Woods, The Great Khali, and Santino vs. Sandow, Ryback, and 3MB. We could have Ryback eliminate Khali quickly, followed by Santino. The faces then kick it up a notch and go on a quick run where they eliminate each member of 3MB in pretty rapid succession. They then get Sandow alone and hit him with a finisher buffet, Ryback sees this and walks off to get counted out, leaving Ziggler, Truth and Woods as the survivors.
It would be a fun way to help establish Truth and Woods as a team, make Ryback look even more like a dick, and give Ziggler and Sandow some time to shine.
What WILL Happen: We’re definitely going to get 3MB come out as some Boston band (Dropkick Murphys?) before Truth and Woods chase them off, hopefully we get an actual match out of it and not just a lame segment.
CM Punk and Daniel Bryan vs. The Wyatt Family
What SHOULD Happen: After watching that awesome match on RAW, it’s hard not to long for a six man elimination match here. Come on, how awesome would that be? Especially to see the tension build between The Shield and The Wyatts.
Hopefully we’ll see a good balanced match that makes both Eric Harper and Luke Rowan look good. I’m a little torn here, I’d like for Punk and/or Bryan to move into a feud with Orton for the title, but at the same time I want the Wyatts to continue to look strong.
More importantly though, who the hell is “The Devil” that’s making the Wyatts get involved? It has to be Kane right? He’s linked to The Wyatts, he has history with both Punk and especially Bryan, it makes sense for him to target them, right?
But back to the match, let’s have Punk and Bryan get the win only for Bray to run in with a chair and lay them both out. The Wyatts deliver a sick 3-on-2 chair beatdown of the Indie darlings. Punk and Bryan need to find someone to even the odds at the event next month, maybe even a certain Show Off who has nothing else to do.
What WILL Happen: I have a feeling we’re going to see the interference and beatdown lead to the Wyatts winning here. We may never find out who “The Devil” is, at least not yet.
Natalya, The Bella Twins, The Funkadactyls, Eva Marie and Jo Jo vs.
AJ Lee, Tamina, Kaitlyn, Alicia Fox, Rosa Mendes, Aksana, and Summer Rae
Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match
What SHOULD Happen: First off, why is Kaitlyn here? I thought she was a face? When the hell did that happen, seriously. Why not put Layla in her place?
I think that we SHOULD see most of the interchangeable Diva’s eliminate one another until we get down to Natalya stuck in a three-on-one against AJ, Kaitlyn, and Summer Rae. Natalya goes out and eliminates Tamina cleanly. AJ and Kaityln argue which leads to Natalya eliminating both of them in rapid succession. Fandango tries to distract Natalya which leads to Tyson Kidd running down and the brawl leads to Summer Rae scoring the pin to be the sole survivor, setting up a possible four-way match at the next PPV.
What WILL Happen: I’m pretty sure that the faces will win here, hopefully this match is kept short and the terrible wrestlers (e.g. not Natalya, AJ, Summer Rae, and Brie Bella) are kept to a minimum. We’ll probably see The Bellas survive, unless they plan on pushing a feud between these two somewhere down the line, which sounds terrible.
Impromptu Match/Segment #2
What SHOULD Happen: Damien Sandow cuts a promo about how he has moved on from that loss in the Elimination Match as he has more important things to worry about, like claiming what is rightfully his…
What WILL Happen: Damien Sandow gets embarassed at the hands of Dolph Ziggler for some reason.
Randy Orton vs. Big Show
WWE Title Match
What SHOULD Happen: Is going back to Daniel Bryan as WWE Champ an option here? No? Well that’s too bad. I guess if we are going to have someone fill in for a few matches it may as well be the Big Show, he’s always a believable contender and can play either face or heel very well. Orton will obviously retain here, he has to right? Big Show does nothing as a champion, especially as a face.
We’re obviously going to get Triple H vs. The Big Show, but when SHOULD it happen? Ideally as soon as possible so we can move on with this, but that really leaves nobody to challenge Orton for the WWE Title next month. So I guess this feud will continue for one more month and they can easily enough add a stipulation, and there’s a pretty obvious one here.
Since The Authority said that they would not interfere, let’s have Orton look like a beast, beating the crap out of the Big Show and kicking out after plenty of close calls. The finish comes when Show sets up Orton for a chokeslam through the announce table (again) but Orton counters and hits and RKO through the announce table leading to a double countout.
What WILL Happen: I have no idea. Orton is going to retain, but I think that we’ll see Big Show win by countout after knocking him through the table again, Orton will probably look week in the process.
John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio
World Heavyweight Title Match
What SHOULD Happen: The answer you are looking for is October 3, 2010. That’s the day that the Hell in a Cell Match between Kane and The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Title closed a Pay-Per-View, and the title hasn’t finished a show since then. That’s right, in the past three years matches featuring John Laurinitus have finished a show more than matches featuring the supposed “co-main event title”. However, with Cena holding the belt, and competing in his home town, it seems like a safe place to end that streak.
Let’s have a very even match until a ref bump. Damien Sandow runs in and hits both guys with chairs and leaves. Del Rio crawls over Cena and has him pinned for an incredibly long time. The ref comes to and only counts for two. Del Rio is pissed and goes to lock on the arm bar but Cena rolls him up for a three count. Both men look good, Sandow looks like a killer, the hometown fans leave happy, and we have ourselves triple threat match for the next event. Simple, right?
What WILL Happen: Cena squashes Del Rio in a very short, boring match.
So heading to TLC we hopefully SHOULD get the following card:
- TLC Match for the World Heavyweight Title: John Cena vs. Damien Sandow vs. Alberto Del Rio
- Tables Match for the WWE Title: Randy Orton vs. The Big Show
- Ladder Match for the Tag Team Titles: Rhodes Brothers vs. Reigns and Rollins vs. The Usos vs. The Real Americans
- Six Man Chairs Match: CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler vs. The Wyatt Family
- US Title Match: Dean Ambrose vs. Rey Mysterio
- The Miz vs. Kofi Kingston
- IC Title Match: Big E. Langston vs. Wade Barrett
- Diva’s Title Match: AJ vs. Natalya vs. Kaitlyn vs. Summer Rae
